Some recent vacation time at work gave me the opportunity to escape the bitter cold and massive snowfalls of Chicago. I gladly traded those in for… the bitter cold and even deeper snows of upstate New York. At least I wasn’t unprepared; my trusty shitkicker boots proved their worth yet again. Having to trudge through knee-deep snow everywhere we went was a challenge, but I could get by without the measures my fellow explorers resorted to.
Being from the midwest (motto: “topography? no thanks!”) I’m a sucker for any hills, mountains, gorges, or whatever can’t be found around my home. Luckily, this road trip had some of that, as well.
Whether due to the snow or their terrible condition inside, some places we visited were more interesting on the outside. Weather was cold but clear for us on a couple days, letting us take advantage of the gorgeous light. The last two shots below were taken as a blizzard was beginning. The impending snow may have lent some character to the shots, but made our departing drive out of New York harrowing.
