Last weekend we had a short outing to an abandoned school a state over. Considering we were prepared for the entire thing to be a bust, it turned out to be a modest success. The building was boarded up, so it was uncertain whether or not we could even get in.

For all the blandness of the midcentury civic architecture, it cut a striking pose atop a low rise at a fork of two roads.

The main entrance was almost hidden by creeping foliage and vines.

We did get inside, but shooting conditions inside were rough. Mostly you had to rely on your own, as seen in the photo above. But in a few places, a break in the boardup let in a furtive and dramatic shaft of light. The spot below is where we spent the most time and exposures, and yielded what I think was my favorite shot of the trip.
