Some scenes culled from a recent deep dive into years of photographs. All from around Chicago, all of places to which you go precisely because you shouldn’t.

A medieval tower of uncertain purpose stands on the outskirts of the city. There was nothing inside or on it that suggested what purpose it might have served.
I enjoy shooting very dark spaces. There’s a meditative quality in the lengths of time required to set up the shot and the long exposure times. And as the light gets more dim, an opportunity pops up: light the scene yourself. I camped out in this hospital’s radiology wing a long time.
A different room, not quite as dark.
Caught this church getting torn down. Sad to not have seen it sooner, but on the other hand, have you ever seen a church sawed in half?
Now you have.
The former headquarters of a former retail giant is the setting for this lovely pod of fungus blooming on the corroded linoleum.
