Photography, to me, has always been about adventure. Though there may be plenty of subject matter to shoot while walking around one’s neighborhood, there is something compelling in seeking out and shooting the foreign, the old, or the (supposedly) off-limits. So it was that urban exploration was what first inspired me to pick up a camera; just gaining access to a place was not enough, capturing the feel of abandoned places became a passion.
I chose Tabula Rasa (‘blank slate’ in Latin) as a pseudonym because I hope to approach each image with little prejudice or back story. A photograph should stand on its own artistic merits, and each image I present is hopefully seen as a work of art, rather than mere document or travelogue.
Was the last paragraph a bit pretentious? Well, what’s a blog for if not to give one’s ego a bit of free reign? Pretense and a goth sensibility will be found here in heavy doses. Hopefully the pictures are purdy.
I’ve spent much time shooting with, and have previously shared a blog with, my friend at The Idiot Photographer. She can now be found at Mahencha.net.
I’ve also collaborated with my friend at Sometimes Interesting, who, despite the name, consistently produces fascinating articles on forgotten or unusual places around the world.
I shoot with a Nikon D7100 and a few lenses, though I favor my Sigma 10-20mm, and I do my ‘shopping on Gimp.

If man were to disappear from earth would nature reclaim every man made structure, like roads and concrete to the point where it would all disappear even to the most trained observer?
Just a thought.
